From two-time Whitney Award finalist J.C. Wade comes the breathtaking conclusion to The White Witch’s Daughter trilogy—a gripping tale of rebellion, sacrifice, and the true cost of freedom.

1297 | Scotland

A storm is brewing.

As King Edward of England tightens his grip, conscripting Scotland’s sons for a war not of their choosing and bleeding the land dry with merciless taxes, whispers of rebellion stir in the shadows. Edyth Ruthven, a seer burdened with visions of an uncertain future, knows the tides of history are shifting—and they will leave no one untouched.

Divided loyalties and dangerous alliances threaten to tear the land apart. Ewan Ruthven walks a treacherous path, navigating shifting allegiances and the weight of a kingdom on the brink. But even as war looms, his greatest battle may be keeping his scattered family safe. With Edyth facing a difficult pregnancy and secrets threatening to unravel their fragile peace, survival is anything but certain.

Iain, meanwhile, is ensnared in a treasonous plot while grappling with an uneasy betrothal to Alice Stewart. What begins as an unwanted arrangement soon becomes something more—but can love bloom in the shadow of war? And Cait, long yearning for action, finds herself at the heart of the rebellion when the fugitive Andrew Moray arrives at her doorstep. The time for eavesdropping is over. Now, she must decide: is she ready for the fight ahead?

As swords clash and betrayals mount, the Ruthvens must navigate a world on the edge of chaos. But in a war for Scotland’s freedom, will their sacrifices be enough?

J.C. Wade is her hometown’s resident weirdo. She gets excited about archeological finds, loves folklore, and would spend all her time holed away reading books and petting cats if her family didn’t need her. She currently resides in Northern Virginia with her husband, three sons, and (only) two cats. She wishes she had more feline friends, but her husband might divorce her if she dared.

Married to a military man, she has had the great opportunity to move often and fall in love with people of all walks of life. Her works merge multiple genres, featuring elements of historical fiction, romance, fantasy, and adventure, all deemed “clean.” She has been a public educator—specifically a teacher of the Deaf and Hard of Hearing—for most of her career but has dabbled in creative writing her entire life.
